Emily Reagle, B.S. Microbiology, University of Maryland
Emily grew up in Frederick, Maryland, where she completed a high school internship at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Dr. Barry O’Keefe’s lab. During her time at NCI, her research focused on identifying and characterizing novel cytotoxic proteins from natural products for potential future therapeutic use. In 2021, Emily graduated with high departmental honors from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), earning B.S. degrees in Biochemistry and Microbiology. While at UMD, she conducted research in Dr. Kevin McIver’s lab, where she worked as both an undergraduate and a post-graduate research technician, helping to characterize an ABC importer critical for the virulence of Group A Streptococcus. Now, as a graduate student in Microbiology at Yale University in the Crawford lab, Emily aims to combine her knowledge of microbial pathogenesis with chemical biology to decode novel biosynthetic pathways and study how small molecules influence host-pathogen interactions.
